Yesterday we held the Financial Accounting network event over at Bristol Myers Squibb in Chester. It was a great day which kicked off with some lovely pastries and getting to know you breakout sessions exploring innovation and the changing world of accounting.
Our first member contribution of the day came from Mark Weston, Fraud Manager at NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership who presented an insightful overview of their anti-fraud journey. Mark shared the problems the NHS has with fraud, counter fraud in NHS Wales and examples of how fraud is detected and how it can be prevented. Huge thank you to Mark for joining us and sharing. It was great to hear the journey so far and opened up the group to share and discuss key strategies across different member organisations that we could emply to strengthen fraud prevention and detection to create a strong fraud awareness culture.
After a lovely healthy networking lunch we heard from Paul Wilkins, Head of CBS Operations who shared an overview of Co-op Business Services (CBS) evolution to delivering an effective multi-functional control environment as a service to their business. Paul spoke about their service approach, challenges and successes encountered, what’s next in terms of the ongoing transformation journey of both the CBS control environment as well as their lens on the Co-op’s journey towards UK SOX. Brilliant examples shared of real-life scenarios and case studies they’re encountering on their journey from financial key controls focus, to end to end multifunctional business value. Thank you Paul for really interesting session which gave Network Chairs Laure and Fatiha the opportunity to share some insigfhts into UK SOX compliance and how we can look at building robust internal controls and compliance with our teams.
The day ended with further breakout sessions to reflect and discuss the learnings of the day and put our plans into action.
A huge thank you to everyone that took the time you join us yesterday, thank you our amazing Network Co-Chairs Laure and Fatiha, thank you to Mark and Paul for your contributions and to Wendy and Bristol Myers Squibb for hosting us.
The next event will take place online on September 26th and we look forward to seeing you soon.
