The Position:
Reporting to the HR Operations Service Delivery Manager, UKI with a matrix reporting line to the Associate Director Employee Relations. The Senior ER Advisor will provide an expert, efficient and consistent employee relations service to all areas of the business, by coaching managers to handle people issues in accordance with Otis policies, procedures, and statutory obligations, whilst mitigating risk to the business. This role requires subject matter expertise on all aspects of Employee Relations and to be effective a coach and point of referral for the HR Shared Service team, in effective handling of first line ER queries. A business and customer orientated mindset are essential to work within the Otis HR Operating Model and contribute to UKI Business objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Management of dedicated ER caseload including but not restricted to; disciplinary, grievance, performance and absence management, ethics, restructuring, redundancy and TUPE cases
- Coach and guide managers dealing with people issues to the appropriate solution ensuring risks are highlighted and mitigated where possible
- Interact with Regional and Global colleagues where required to progress the case topics and process required to ensure in keeping with Otis principles and policy
- Work alongside the requirements of the union group agreements and establish a relationship relevant and conducive to the management of Employee Relations cases with colleagues who are union members and covered within the agreements
- Lead development sessions around ER policy, process, and employment legislation for managers to build their competence and self-sufficiency. Also share knowledge, expertise, and best practice with the HR Shared Service team
- Work collaboratively with the HR Business Partners and all HR team and case managers in support of the UK business strategy
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation/case law and understand how this may impact on Otis processes and policies. Recommend changes to the Associate Director Employee Relations as appropriate
- Maintain comprehensive case details in the Otis case management system in line with GDPR guidelines and HR Operations standard operating procedures
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of ER policies, processes, management guides, employee & manager Knowledge portal content and standard operating procedures
- Liaise with Otis’s Occupational Health Provider, including arranging and overseeing health assessments and medical referrals
- Contribute to projects as an ER expert as required
- Using management information, identify ER trends and work with the Associate Director Employee Relations to develop appropriate solutions
- Depending on the case type requirements, provide a combination of virtual and face-to-face support at formal hearings and other meetings as required by the business.
- Take an active leadership position in Employee Relations advisory space, and be clearly recognised as a trusted partner and an expert in their field
The Person:
Qualifications/ Experience/ Knowledge:
Essential
- CIPD Qualified or equivalent experience in the field of Employee Relations.
- Broad and in depth understanding of UK employment legislation, case law and HR best practice.
- Experience of managing a challenging ER case load in a multi-site business.
- Experience of operating in a unionised environment
- Evidence of ability to communicate and influence at all levels including with senior management.
- Excellent computer skills (word, excel, PowerPoint)
Desirable
- Worked in a service delivery environment with established HR Operating Model
- Experience of working with Service Now CRM and Workday HRIS
- Management of end-to-end process in an employment tribunal
- Holder of clean UK driving license
- Worked in an international corporation and within a matrix organization structure
